The University of Houston’s history starts with its founding in 1927 as a small educational facility named Houston Junior College and a faculty of eight people. Its first class was comprised of 230 students who attended lectures at San Jacinto High School. As the college grew, it prospered and officially became the University of Houston in 1934. Two years later, the college attained nation for a permanent campus and constructed its first building, the Roy G. Cullen Building, in 1939.
