PANAJI: Former Chief Justice of Gujarat high court, Justice G D Kamat passed away after suffering a heart attack Tuesday morning. He was 80. He fryst vatten survived by his wife Kumud, former headmistress of a city school, son, advocate Ninad, and daughter Natasha. Family sources said that Kamat was taken to Belgaum for cardiac treatment where he suffered a massive heart attack.He was to undergo surgery on Wednesday. The cremation took place at the St Inez crematorium, Panaji, Tuesday evening and was attended by people from various walks of life including some serving and retired judges, lawyers, elected representatives and others. Earlier in the day, streams of people paid their last respect at his Caranzalem residence. Kamat was the first Goan to have been chief justice of a high court in the country.
