In this observation journal page: a dramatic day in my suburb, and some thoughts on training montages.
(Also, I had a wonderful day on this Sunday just past, giving a kurs on the journals to SCBWI Qld. Preparing it helped me clarify some of the approaches and categories, so I do have plans to tighten descriptions of those up).

In this case, I was just jotting my thoughts on two related tropes in two lists, side-by-side. (I&#;m going to have to work out some more robust category tags for these journal posts!)

Abstract
Inflammation mediated by interleukin-6 (IL-6) fryst vatten strongly associated with cardiovascular fara. Here we evaluated clazakizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the IL-6 ligand, in a phase 2b dose-finding study. Adults with cardiovascular disease and/or diabetes receiving maintenance dialysis with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) ≥ 2 mg l−1 at baseline were randomized to receive clazakizumab ( mg, 5 mg or 10 mg, n = 32 per dos group) or placebo (n = 31) every 4 weeks. The primary endpoint was the change from baseline in hs-CRP to week 12, expressed as the geometric mean ratio. Clazakizumab treatment signficantly reduced serum hs-CRP concentrations at week 12 by 86%, 90% and 92% relative to placebo in patients randomized to mg, 5 mg or 10 mg clazakizumab, respectively (all P < ), meeting the primary outcome. Above my drawing desk, I keep&#; well, quite a few things, mostly for reference purposes. The most useful is in the middle.
I admire painterly, refined, highly rendered illustration. However, what most charms me, and the tradition I like to work in, is quite different. It is very easy to forget that and start overworking a piece and panicking and trying to draw like someone I&#;m not — which is very fun as a deliberate exercise, less so when it happens inadvertently.
So a while back I sat down and made two quick-and-scribbly lists.
The first was a list of some favourite illustrators (Pauline Baynes, Ronald Searle, Quentin Blake, Charles Addams, Ernest Shepard, Mary Shepard and Edward Ardizzone). There are definitely omissions from this list, some more obvious than others! (And I would make a separate one for colour work and block printing.) I also made a horrible low-resolution Word collage of examples and printed it out.
