Keynes je bil eden najpomembnejših britanskih ekonomistov in političnih teoretikov moderne dobe, ki je s svojimi idejami temeljito spremenil teorijo in prakso makroekonomije in ekonomske politike vlad. Najprej jo je razvijal matematično, nato pa je nadgradil in dodobra izpopolnil prejšnje delo o vzrokih poslovnih ciklov in je postal eden najvplivnejših ekonomistov 20. stoletja.[6][7][8][9] Velja za utemeljitelja moderne makroekonomije, njegove ideje so znane kot šola keynesijske ekonomije, h kateri spadajo tudi različni odmiki.[10]

Perhaps that's to be expected for what Thomas Carlyle described as the "dismal science". Yet the greatest and most revolutionary economist of the 20th century, John Maynard Keynes, applied the same sort of unconventional adventurism to his sex life, and this most intellectual of dock was also possessed of considerable carnal curiosity.
