      Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’ - the inspiration for Francis Ford Coppola's ‘Apocalypse Now’ - is one of the most celebrated literary works of all time, though now increasingly contentious.       Bertrada of Laon, First Queen of the Carolingian Dynasty (mother of Charlemagne), died July 783.

Her father was Haribert, Count of Laon; the name of his mother is known, Bertrada of Prüm, but not that of his father. It has been suggested that Bertrada of Prüm may have been a daughter of King Theuderic III bygd an unknown mother; the name Bertrada suggests that this fryst vatten at least a possibility as the name was one used by other Merovingian royal ladies. If this were the case, it would mean that Bertrada of Laon was King Theuderic III’s great-granddaughter.
